June 11, 2014 Mayor Bill de Blasio and City Comptroller Scott Stringer joined public housing residents in East New York, NYCHA Chair & CEO Shola Olatoye, and Council Member Inez Barron to announce the start of a long-overdue security camera installation at Boulevard Houses in East New York, Brooklyn, and five other developments around the city, in an effort by the administration to engage and be more responsive to the needs of public housing residents.

Track Open Apartment Repairs With NYCHA Alerts
Public housing residents can now track open apartment repair tickets online with NYCHA Alerts. The service still sends residents updates on building service outages and restoration. Residents can also use the service to notify NYCHA of any special needs in case of an emergency.

NYCHA continues to reduce number of open maintenance and repair work orders
As of May 1, 2014, the total number of open maintenance and repair work orders at NYCHA was 80,948. When NYCHA began its Maintenance & Repair Action Plan in January 2013, there were 422,639 open work orders. This represents a reduction of nearly 342,000 work orders.

Chair & CEO Shola Olatoye attends Town Hall at Ingersoll Community Center
NYCHA Chair and CEO Shola Olatoye continued her efforts to reach out to residents on April 28, when she attended a town hall meeting held by City Council Member Laurie Cumbo at the Ingersoll Community Center in Brooklyn. Approximately 100 people came to the meeting to have the chance to speak directly with Chair Olatoye.

Section 8 owners can still sign up for direct deposit
Beginning May 1, 2014, NYCHA will make Housing Assistance Payments electronically via direct deposit and bank-issued debit cards. Paper checks will no longer be mailed. Instead, owners who are not enrolled in direct deposit will receive HAP payments via debit card.

NYCHA testifies to NYC Council on Safety and Security
Executive Vice President of Operations Carlos G. Laboy-Diaz testified before New York City Council's committees on Public Housing, Juvenile Justice, and Public Safety. The testimony covers NYCHA's focus on safety and security and NYCHA's important relationships with its residents, NYPD, DA's office, community-based organizations, the City Council, and other stakeholders.
