Before Taking the First Dose - Check Your Pills Dispensed by the Pharmacy

For years, we have been recommending to our friends and clients to please double check to make sure the local pharmacy is putting the correct pills in the pill bottle, and that the directions listed on the pill bottle are consistent with the instructions provided by the physician.  It is clear to us that many Maryland and District of Columbia drugstores are busier than ever -- due partially to the aging of our population -- and that pharmacists no longer spend enough time behind the prescription counter checking to make sure the correct medicine is being delivered to the customer.  As a result, dangerous pharmacy misfills and medication errors are occurring, with customers being given the wrong medicine, the wrong dose of a medication, the wrong instructions for taking the medicine, or even someone else's medicine altogether.  These same pharmacy errors occur within a hospital pharmacy, and so, if possible, please check with the nursing staff to ensure the medicine given is the medicine ordered.  Our Maryland pharmacy error attorneys urge that customers and patients no longer place their full faith in pharmacists who are often required by their employers to fill far too many prescriptions too quickly.
