On March 16, 1897, when the citizens of Long Beach were concerned about the increasing number of uncontrollable fires, 28 charter members signed up as volunteer firemen. Thus, the Long Beach Fire Department was established to serve the community. More LBFD history
The Long Beach Fire Department has come a long way since it's humble beginnings, and we currently have 543.66 FTE (full time equivalent) uniformed and civilian personnel budgeted.
